2nd Malaysian Waikato Postgraduates Colloquium 2013 + Dinner

This colloquium was held to finish the Malaysian postgraduates journal made by Dr. Sazali. It was organised to complete the last year's colloquium. This time, we had two great presenters, which were Izhar bin Abdul Aziz and Mazura binti Anuar. After that, the event continued with talks and panel discussion by our special guests. The topic discussed was 'Projecting Good Reputation of International Malaysian Students'.

During the night, we had a dinner together at Biryani House Hamilton on Victoria Street. It was held to know each other since some of us are new to New Zealand. It was fully supported by Chair of Malay Studies, thanks to Prof. Wan Rafaei. Eventually, we also had a cake to celebrate Datin Dr. Siti Maimon's birthday in two days after. It was a surprise for her!

Wuma Bowling Team Tournament

Time: 3.00pm, 24 March 2013

Venue: Skycity Hamilton

Participants: All Malaysians around Waikato region

     The participants were divided into groups of 6. To be fair, they cannot choose their own teammates. Instead, we randomly divided them (5 groups total, with another group for kids). Everyone had to play for two rounds.
     The winner received a hamper. Congratulations to the 5th group which got the total highest score. Furthermore, Cikgu Mad Noh (group 5) got the highest score among all players, followed by abg Kimi, and me..(hehe guess who I am?).

Awareness on Safety and Emergency Plans in New Zealand

On 20 November 2012, Malaysians in Hamilton had the opportunity to get to know better about what to do during emergency situations due to natural disasters in New Zealand.

The briefing was given by Mr. Chris Hattingh, an Emergency Management Officer from the Hamilton City Council. Among others, the speaker shared about history of natural disasters in the country and how to create and practice a household emergency plan.

Such an Inspiration!

It was such an inspiring moment to listen to the public lecture by our Sasterawan Negara or Poet Laureate, Prof. Muhammad Haji Salleh, on 5th September 2012 at the University of Waikato, Hamilton. A truly humble and warm person, Prof. Muhammad captured the attention of the audience during his lecture on "The Relevance of Literature in Modern Society".

One of his most memorable quotes was "Yang indah itu tidak akan selalu indah jika tidak dijaga". (Beauty will not remain beautiful if it's not looked after).

Hari Raya Aidilfitri 2012

WUMA organised the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration on 19th August 2012 (Sunday) at the Silverdale Normal School Hall, Hamilton. Although so far away from home, Malaysians in Hamilton had a grand time celebrating Raya together. :)
